Ramoji film city is about 25 Km east of Hyderabad and is touted as the universal studios of India. I had been to Universal studios several times and was very curious to see Ramoji city.
I had a few days before my trip back to the US, so we decided to go to Ramoji film city.
The entrance of Ramoji film city was absolutely fabulous, modeled on an ancient Indian fortress with huge doors. I absolutely loved it.
Once we entered, I realized just how large the place is! It would definitely take a whole day and more. The place has an absolutely amazing collection of sets and it was wonderful to see Indian sets. Palaces, gardens, sculptures, history on the one side and on the other side modern sets used in modern day movies.
Entire mughal palace sets were present. It was surreal to see so many different times from history in the same place.
There is nannagaru giving mummy a rose in the mughal gardens. There is me on the fort walls. Then there were the Vrindavan gardens -- absolutely important in most hindi movies of the 80s and the 90s where heros and heroines sang several songs.
There were the Ajanta caves with sculptors engraved looking quite real. They had a very mediocre light and sound show, but the caves looked wonderful.
There are false airports where heroes run to stop their heroines from leaving. There are false airplanes where all in flight scenes are shot. There,s mummy and I leaving at the airport and then later in the flight.
There are a lot of walking to do. There were wide roads with sculptures. It was a pleasure to walk despite the hyderabad sun.
The sculpture garden was absolutely amazing. I especially loved the Japaneese garden.
In the evening there were some shows as in universal studios but, they were quite mediocre.
There were also some 4 -D shows like in universal studio - back to the future - but it was quite original and I loved it. Over all the entire day was very nice though a bit tiring from all the walking.
