Camping in Butany State Park

Butany state park is about 15 miles south of Half Moon Bay along the pacific coast highway. I was visiting the Bay area and Pankaj being a camping and trekking enthusiast found a nice place to camp in the Butany state park. Pankaj, Mani, Manish and I drove north and picked up Gola and then drove down to the PCH towards half moon bay. Thats me driving.

Unlike other campsites this was site was in absolute wilderness, deep inside a forest. So there would be no restrooms not water and no facilities whatsoever. We had to hike deep into the forest to reach this site. Pankaj knew the way and we basically followed him. We did not really have a camera but Manish had brought his video cam which we used to tape and also take photos.

The hike to the campsite was fantastic. On the way we saw a lot of leeches. These leeches were jumbo leeches alomst 6 inches in length and obese. Theres a leech that I photographed. There were also some very nice formations along the way, which we never figured out what they were.

Our hike path took us around a mountain with deep valley beside us. It was a great experience. We set up tents at our campsite. There were several mosquitoes here and we had brought some mosquito reprellents with us. The mosquitoes however did not enter the tents so our sleep was quite peaceful.

The next day we packed up and drove down the PCH and stopped at several beaches and played games at the beaches. The drive on PCH was absolutely wonderful.
